Wärtsilä won a contract in April to supply the cargo handling and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel supply systems for two new very large gas carrier vessels (VLGC) being built for China-based Oriental Energy, a company mainly focusing on operation of PDH (Propane Dehydrogenation) factories and LPG trading.The 93,000-cubic-meter-capacity vessels are being built at the Jiangnan yard in China, and are among the largest of their type ever built.In addition to the cargo handling system, Wärtsilä will deliver its unique LPG fuel supply system (LFSS) as an integrated element within the entire gas handling installation. Wärtsilä claims it is currently the only company with LFSS units in operation.

Alfa Laval said it has won an order for three units of the Alfa Laval FCM LPG, the low-flashpoint fuel supply system (LFSS) developed in partnership with MAN Energy Solutions.The LFSS order was signed in December 2020 with IMEX Co., Ltd., which builds MAN Energy Solutions licensed engines in Japan as a subsidiary company of Hitachi Zosen Corporation. The order comprises three Alfa Laval FCM LPG systems that will be installed on three Japanese LPG carriers.According to Alfa Laval, Using LPG cargo as fuel is an attractive solution on such vessels, since it reduces SOx emissions to near zero and provides easy compliance with the global sulphur cap.

Tanker shipping company TORM announced on Wednesday it has purchased three 2015-built Aframax vessels from Okeanis Eco Tankers Corp. for $120.8 million.The three 114,322 dwt LR2 tankers Nissos Schinoussa, Nissos Heraclea and Nissos Therassia are expected to be delivered during the second and the quarters of 2021, TORM said. The trio was built at South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries, and each is fitted with scrubbers and ballast water treatment system.TORM said it has obtained commitment for the financing of two of the vessels from Danish Ship Finance for $60 million

Fires that crippled two Equinor plants in Norway last year were caused by both technical and human errors, the energy company said on Wednesday, promising to hire and train more staff.A blaze last September at Hammerfest LNG, Europe's only large-scale liquefied natural gas plant, caused an outage expected to last 18 months, while a fire in December at the Tjeldbergodden methanol facility took two months to repair."We are bolstering our recruitment of engineering resources within electrical disciplines and up to 50 skilled workers are bound for the onshore facilities," the company said in a statement.

Danish offshore supply vessel operator Maersk Supply Service will deploy another vessel to support The Ocean Cleanup in its effort to remove plastic from the oceans.MSS said that this summer the Maersk Trader vessel will join its sister vessel Maersk Tender in the Pacific Ocean, strengthening The Ocean Cleanup’s pursuit to rid the oceans of plastic.The Maersk Trader is contracted for one year and will initially work on a trial in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in Summer 2021."The extra vessel, Maersk Trader, was made possible by A.P. Møller-Maersk increasing its donation to the non-profit organization, confirming its commitment to Ocean Health," MSS said.
