Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku on Monday commenced production of Royal Caribbean International's next cruise ship Icon of the Seas. The start of production and the revealing of the ship’s name were celebrated at the shipyard's plate hall, where Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer, Chairman of the Board of Meyer Turku , Bernard Meyer, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, Richard Fain, and Harri Kulovaara, Executive Vice President of Maritime & Newbuilds, were present. Moduteh Marine, of Tacoma, Wash., has gained recognition on meeting the stringent conditions of military contracts. In 2020 they completed a contract to build a fleet of five small tugs. These carry the military designation Work Boat Docking.“The mission of the CNIC Work Boat Docking (WB Docking) is to provide waterborne support at U.S. Navy Installations,” said Modutech’s Brian Swindahl. “The boats are required to have the ability to safely assist vessels including submarines for mooring and dry-docking, open and close security barriers, as well as to tow/push floating port operations support equipment.

GTT to Design Tanks for Four New LNG Carriers

French engineering firm GTT announced on Wednesday that it has received an order from Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the tank design of four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to be built for a European shipowner.GTT said it will design the tanks of the vessels which will each offer a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters and will be fitted with the GTT Mark III Flex+ membrane cryogenic containment system.The ships are scheduled to be delivered between the third quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024.

Dongara Marine Delivers Its First Rescue RIB

The first newbuild rigid inflatable boat (RIB) built by Dongara Marine has entered into service, heralding a raft of government and RIB contracts for the Western Australian boatbuilder.The newbuild, Cape Rose, was completed at the end of last year and has been operating for Marine Rescue Shark Bay since delivery to Denham in early in 2021. It has replaced a response vessel that had serviced the Western Australia (WA) coastline for more than 20 years, both with the group and previously with WA Water Police.Construction of the new vessel was funded and overseen by WA’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) as part of the WA Government’s $19.
