German container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd said in a notice to customers Monday that positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed among crew on board two of its U.S.-flagged containerships. "We regret to inform you that during normal operations of our Philadelphia Express and St. Louis Express, deployed in our Atlantic Loop 3 (AL3) service one member of each vessel’s crew tested positive for COVID-19." it said."The mariners are quarantined and we are hoping for a speedy recovery. All other crew members on the vessel are being isolated, monitored and will be tested as well.
Singapore's Keppel O&M has received orders from Japan's FPSO leasing company MODEC to deliver components for two FPSO units. The orders are worth S$73 million (USD52,5 million) in total.In Singapore, Keppel Shipyard will fabricate, complete, and integrate the topside modules and mooring support structure for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO).Components for the modules and mooring support structure are scheduled to arrive in 3Q 2020 for completion as well as integration and installation with the FPSO hull, which is expected in the yard in 4Q 2020.
In recent years the U.S. Coast Guard has identified an increasing trend in the use of cellular phones by the maritime public when communicating distress. In 2018, leadership in the Office of Search and Rescue (SAR) at Coast Guard Headquarters asked the Research and Development Center (RDC) to investigate available technologies that could assist Coast Guard responders in adapting to this trend by leveraging the cellphone’s internal GPS. The RDC, located in New London, Conn., has been serving the Coast Guard for nearly 50 years through research, testing and evaluation of various technologies across all 11 missions.
