For Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC), the year has had a strong start. Today, a significant milestone was reached in the Squadron 2020 project with the start of production of the fourth multi-purpose corvette and the keel-laying of the third one. This also means that all four multi-purpose corvettes of Pohjanmaa class -- ships that measure 117 x 16.5m with a 5m draft and a crew of 70 -- are now simultaneously under construction at the RMC shipyard. Moreover, preparations are in full swing for the production of the two icebreakers ordered by the United States at the end of 2025.The year 2026 is expected to be particularly interesting and significant for the Rauma shipyard.

The ceremonial event held in the steel hall was attended by representatives of the ship’s owner Royal Caribbean Group, the Meyer Turku organization, and the classification society. The traditional steel-cutting ceremony marked the start of more than two years of construction and outfitting work, involving thousands of professionals across different fields. Once completed, the vessel—whose name will be revealed later—will take on an important role within the Royal Caribbean Group fleet as part of the pioneering Icon Class that enables entirely new kinds of holiday experiences.
Interferry Demands Pause on EU ETS Implementation at 70% Coverage

Interferry Demands Pause on EU ETS Implementation at 70% Coverage

Interferry is calling for an immediate halt on the further implementation of the EU ETS for the ferry sector, maintaining the surrendering obligation for maritime emissions frozen at the 70% level scheduled for 2025, and halting the planned increase to 100% in 2026. The demand follows the recent decision to continue exempting road transport from a parallel ETS mechanism and the lack of clear regulations on the distribution of the funds collected.“This action must remain in place until road transport is also in an ETS and funds collected are actually ringfenced for maritime decarbonization.
