Port states benefit greatly from the vessels that call at their ports, loading and unloading cargoes with great efficiency and speed.  The items manufactured in those states and sold overseas keep many of their citizens gainfully employed.  The items imported supply stock for the stores of their nation and provide goods for their citizens.  The physical ports utilized by the vessels are employment magnets, attracting a diverse array of industries.Yet, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, those port states took swift actions against the very vessels that keep their economies in operation.

Rotterdam-based McNetiq launched a new line of magnetic anchors for fall protection when working at height.The first product in this series from McNetiq is the workplace safety device McNetiq Fall Restraint, intended for workplaces constructed of steel without edge protection.The operator is connected to this anchor with a measured working line so that the worker can never get past the unsecured edge. Areas of application are: loading and unloading work on ship decks, construction and demolition work on drilling platforms, shipbuilding and maintenance, and working on cranes and windmills.This new application is based on Controlock technology.

Veecraft Marine, subsidiary of Paramount Maritime, delivered a 20m workboat to ARMSCOR on behalf of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), whose Special Forces will use the vessel for the transportation of personnel and equipment and also for support training activities.The workboat, named Inkanyamba after a Zulu legendary sea serpent, is designed to efficiently navigate through the inclement weather conditions often experienced in the coastal regions of South Africa.Despite a deadweight load of 20 tonnes and the capacity to accommodate a 6m Intermodal (ISO) container, while fitted with a 5 ton marine crane, the Incat Crowther designed vessel can reach a cruise speed of 14 knots

One of Puget Sound's oldest surviving wooden tugs is being restored after sinking in Hood Canal in the summer of 2017.Built in 1906 by James Hall, the tugboat Parthia had a long-life servicing ships that called to Washington's Capital City, Olympia. Beyond working, she is also a five-time winner of the Olympia Harbor Days vintage tugboat races - a true icon of the city's waterfront.After the vessel sank while under private ownership, several members of the Puget Sound Maritime and Olympia's South Sound Maritime Heritage Association (SSMHA) ensured the Parthia was salvaged and is now being restored to her original glory.
