Russian Navy Vessel Collides with Container Ship in Danish Waters

A Russian navy vessel collided with a Swiss-owned container ship in Danish waters on Wednesday near the Oresund Bridge linking Denmark and Sweden, Danish defense authorities told Reuters.The Ice Rose, which was sailing from St. Petersburg in Russia to Gothenburg in Sweden, collided with a Russian frigate early on Wednesday morning, a spokesman for the Joint Operation Centre said.He said the reason for the collision was not clear, but that the Russian vessel had permission to be in Danish waters and had notified Danish authorities of its presence.No one aboard the Ice Rose was injured and there were no signs of oil leaks or ingress of water, the spokesman said.

To support Singapore’s harbor fleet’s transition towards a low-carbon future, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) have launched a joint call for proposals on the electrification of harbor craft.According to the collaborators, $6.5m from the Maritime GreenFuture Fund is set aside to co-fund the harbor craft projects, and proposals should seek to develop commercially-ready fully electric harbor craft and/or interoperable shore charging infrastructure for electric harbor craft and other electric vessels operating in the Port of Singapore. Proposals with a viable business model for scalability will be favored.

Finland-based Wärtsilä said it will divest 100% of the shares in Wärtsilä JOVYATLAS GmbH to Jacob Waitz Industrie GmbH, a German based industry holding.Wärtsilä JOVYATLAS has been manufacturing uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, rectifiers, power inverters, frequency transformers and resistors with related services for many industries for seven decades. The company became part of Wärtsilä as a result of the acquisition of L-3 Communications MSI in 2015. Wärtsilä JOVYATLAS is located in Jemgum in Germany, and currently has some 125 employees. In 2019 annual revenues were €20 million ($23.4 million).Completion of the transaction is expected October 1, 2020.

Singapore is seeking proposals on the electrification of small vessels known as harbourcraft as the industry transitions towards a low-carbon future, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a joint statement on Wednesday.The MPA is working with the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) to seek proposals from industry participants and institutes of higher learning or research institutes to develop commercially ready fully-electric harbourcraft.They are also seeking proposals for shore charging infrastructure for electric harbourcraft and other electric vessels operating in Singapore's port.
