Engine designer WinGD (Winterthur Gas & Diesel) has published a cylinder lubrication guide to provide ship operators with consolidated, at-a-glance information highlighting the specific usage conditions for each and every approved cylinder oil.The guidance is the result of several months’ work with major oil companies to make usage requirements more transparent. Previously, the guidelines for each oil were found only in the industry standard No Objection Letters (NOL) issued by WinGD to oil companies, and available only upon request by a customer to an oil company directly. Now this information has been included in the full list of approved cylinder oils.

EU antitrust regulators have again halted their investigation into world No. 1 shipbuilding group Hyundai Heavy Industries' $1.8 billion merger with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, a European Commission filing showed.This is the third time the EU competition enforcer has halted the probe, having done so previously while waiting for details and due to delays related to the coronavirus crisis.The Commission warned in December that the deal to create a company with a 21% market share could push up prices, saying that European shipping companies, among the two shipbuilders' biggest customers, may be affected.

The Methanol Institute (MI) has joined a study led by the China Waterborne Transportation Research Institute (CWTRI), the think tank of the Chinese Ministry of Transport, which will consider the technical and operational requirements for the use of methanol as a marine fuel. The study is supported by methanol producers and distributors Methanex  and Shanghai Huayi Energy Chemical Co., Ltd.Based on the characteristics of China’s energy and shipping industries, the study will create comprehensive guidance and policy suggestions for the use of methanol as a marine fuel, reflecting the experience already gained in large and small methanol-fueled marine engines

Teknotherm Marine to Deliver HVAC for Østensjø's Newbuilds

Norwegian company Teknotherm Marine will provide the Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning (HVAC) and Refrigeration systems for four offshore wind vessels currently being built in Spain.The vessels, to be built by Spanish shipyards Gondán Shipbuilders and Balenciaga Shipyard, have been ordered by owner Edda Wind/Østensjø Rederi.  Gondán Shipbuildershas started construction of two 88m CSOVs (Commissioning Service Operation Vessels) for up to 120 persons. The first CSOV is expected for delivery in the first quarter of 2022 and will be chartered by Ocean Breeze for a period of 11 years. Balenciaga Shipyard will build two 82m SOV (Service Operation Vessels) for up to 60 persons.
