Taiwanese shipping line Evergreen has confirmed its plans to build a total of ten 23,000 TEU containerships.According to a stock exchange filing, the new vessels would be built at three shipyards in South Korea and China.According to the reports from the South China Morning Post, the enormous order will cost Evergreen anywhere between US$1.4 billion and US$1.6 billion. It is estimated that each vessel will cost between $140 million and $160 million.The new vessels could see Evergreen become the sixth biggest carrier line in the world, overtaking major Japanese alliance Ocean Network Express (ONE).

Seaborne Nuclear Power Plant Docks in Russia

Russia's first-floating nuclear power plant has arrived to its permanent base near an isolated Russian town across the Bering Strait from Alaska, Russian state nuclear energy company Rosatom said on Saturday.Developed by Rosatom, the plant, known as "Akademik Lomonosov", set off on a 5,000 km (3,100 mile) journey on Aug. 23 through Arctic waters to reach the Chukotka region. Rosatom said it aims to make the floating station operational by the year-end. It would become the world's northernmost nuclear power station.The plant will replace a coal-fired power plant and an aging nuclear power plant supplying more than 50,000 people with electricity in Chukotka.

Algoma Acquires Croatian-Built Vessel

Canadaian provider of marine transportation services Algoma Central Corporation has reached an agreement with 3Maj Brodogradiliste of Croatia under which Algoma will acquire a new Equinox Class 650’ self-unloading dry-bulk carrier upon completion of the vessel by the Shipyard.The vessel, the second of two such ships that were to be built by 3Maj for the Company, is partially built and moored at the 3Maj shipyard in Rijeka. Work on the vessel was halted in 2017 when the Shipyard entered an extended period of financial difficulties.Algoma took delivery of the Algoma Innovator, a sister ship and the first ship built under a two-vessel contract, near the beginning of the 2018 navigation season.

Ramelia Begins Maiden Voyage

The LNG tanker Ramelia has been delivered to the chemical tankers in Northern Europe Rederi AB Älvtank, becoming the sixth of eight vessels ordered in the Gothia Tanker Alliance series.The vessels are built on a design where FKAB Marine design, in great cooperation with the owners Furetank, Älvtank and Thun Tankers and together with Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., have been involved from the first sketch all the way to Detail Design.This design is an ice class 1A environmental friendly tanker, equipped with batteries and dual fuel engines for LNG operation.It is of 16,300 DWT on design draught & 18,000 DWT on scantling draught.

US Fines HHI $47Mln Over Dirty Engines

US authorities announced that South Korea's top shipbuilding conglomerate Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) will pay a US$47 million fine for illegally importing and selling dirty diesel engines in violation of American environmental rules.US Justice Department and and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that between 2012 and 2015, the company imported nearly 2,300 diesel-powered heavy construction vehicles with engines that did not meet US emissions standards.“Hyundai put profits above the public’s health and the requirements of the law,” Jeffrey Bossert Clark, head of the department’s environment and natural resources division, said in a statement.
