Russian shipbuilder Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex on Tuesday held a keel laying ceremony for a new Arctic liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier ordered by compatriot shipowner PAO Sovcomflot (SCF Group).The newbuild is the lead vessel in a series of 15 carriers ordered from Zvezda for servicing the Arctic LNG 2 project. She is the first-ever vessel of such dimensions, cargo capacity and icebreaking capabilities to be constructed at a Russian shipyard.The series' lead ship will be owned by SCF, while the remaining 14 will be owned by SMART LNG, a joint venture between PAO Sovcomflot and PAO NOVATEK. Their construction is being financed by VEB.RF.

Royal Caribbean Group said on Wednesday it would delay the launch of its new cruise liner by nearly a month after eight crew members tested positive for COVID-19, the latest setback in its push to restart the much-awaited U.S. summer trips.Odyssey of the Seas, which was scheduled to sail through the Southern and Western Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will now set sail on July 31 instead of July 3. A simulation cruise, originally set for late June, will also be rescheduled.Cruise companies have been cleared in the United States to sail under strict conditions, giving them a much needed respite after being hammered by the pandemic

BMT, in partnership with Marine Specialized Technology (MST), were selected by the UK Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) to provide 18 high-speed patrol vessels.The BMT design is 15m in length and powered by twin inboard diesel propulsion engines driving twin waterjets. The new design focuses on reduced fuel consumption and performance, designed to be a 30-knot vessel. The bridge will sport a fully integrated C4ISR and craft management system, using the latest open-architecture structure and shock mitigation crew seating.

Bollinger Shipyards announced on Wednesday that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command to conduct a concept study and the preliminary design of the U.S. Navy’s Light Amphibious Warship (LAW).The LAW program envisions procuring a class of 28 to 30 new amphibious ships to support the Marine Corps, particularly in implementing a new Marine Corps operational concept called Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO). The Navy envisions the first LAW being procured in FY2023.“Bollinger Shipyards is honored and excited to continue participating in the LAW program,” said Bollinger president and CEO Ben Bordelon.

GTT to Design Tanks for Four New LNG Carriers

French engineering firm GTT announced on Wednesday that it has received an order from Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the tank design of four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to be built for a European shipowner.GTT said it will design the tanks of the vessels which will each offer a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters and will be fitted with the GTT Mark III Flex+ membrane cryogenic containment system.The ships are scheduled to be delivered between the third quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024.
