The United States is working with Norway, Denmark and other countries to develop zero-emissions fuel options for ships as part of a push to de-carbonize the industry, officials involved said.With about 90% of world trade transported by sea, global shipping accounts for nearly 3% of the world's CO2 emissions.In April, U.S. climate envoy John Kerry said Washington would join an international effort to achieve zero emissions in the global shipping industry by 2050.The U.S. Department of Energy told Reuters by email that it would collaborate with Denmark and Norway to speed up the development of green maritime and energy technologies.

Petrobras Orders $2.3B FPSO from Saipem, DSME JV

Italian offshore engineering and construction firm Saipem, in a joint venture with South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME), has won a contract with Brazil's Petrobras to build an FPSO for the Búzios offshore field in Brazil.The FPSO P-79 project is worth overall approximately $2.3 billion. Saipem’s portion is approximately $1.3 billion.The FPSO vessel will allow initial separation of gas from the oil extracted in the deep offshore reservoir and will have a production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 7.2 million cubic meters of (mcbm) gas per day, with a storage capacity of two million barrels of oil.

Spanish rescuers were searching the waters off the coast of Tenerife for a one-year-old girl on Friday after the body of a six-year-old girl, presumed to be her sister, was pulled from a 1,000-meter depth.Their father, Tomas G., is the main suspect in the disappearance of Olivia, 6, and Anna, 1, after failing to return them to their mother as agreed at the end of April. He is also missing.The body of the 6-year old, whom authorities said in all likelihood was that of Olivia, was found near where her father's boat was found empty adrift at sea."The body was at a depth of 1,000 meters inside of a sports bag tied to an anchor.

Nord Stream 2 to Start Work on Filling Pipeline

Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas project will start preparations on Friday to fill the first of two pipelines with natural gas within a few months, the Gazprom-led project said on Thursday.Nord Stream 2, which runs on the bed of the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany, bypassing Ukraine, has faced criticism from the United States, which says it will increase European reliance on Russian gas."Starting from tomorrow, the required pre-commissioning activities will be carried out over the next months to prepare for gas-in," Nord Stream 2 said in a statement.
