The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index climbed on Friday to post its best weekly gain since mid-February thanks to higher demand for capesize vessels.The Baltic dry index, which tracks rates for capesize, panamax and supramax vessels ferrying dry bulk commodities, rose 38 points, or 1.4%, to 2,788, its highest since September 2010.The main index firmed 16.9% this week, its best since February 19.The capesize index gained 115 points, or 2.8%, to 4,192 - its highest since October 6, 2020.The index added 21.9% for the week, its best since March 5 and marking a fourth straight week of gains.

UK Club, an insurer of the Ever Given cargo ship which ran aground in the Suez Canal in March, said on Friday it had filed an appeal in an Egyptian court over the detention of the vessel by authorities.The Ever Given has been anchored in a lake between two sections of the canal since being dislodged on March 29 and is caught in a legal dispute linked to a $916 compensation claim made by the SCA against the ship's Japanese owner.UK Club, the Ever Given's protection & indemnity (P&I) insurer, said the move was necessary as it had not been possible to resolve the issue without continued involvement of the Egyptian courts.

Norwegian based Siem Offshore said it has entered into a contract with an undisclosed subsea construction company for an offshore project in the Gulf of Mexico.The project will utilize the Bahamas-flagged offshore support and construction vessel (OSCV) Siem Spearfish for a scope of work consisting of subsea and remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) duties. The contract has been awarded under a minimum duration of 110 days, plus options, Siem Offshore said.Siem Spearfish will commence its new charter in direct continuation of its current commitment in West Africa, extending utilization into the fourth quarter of 2021 at least.The 120.

Damen Shipyards Group has delivered a Multi Cat 2712 to Orkney-based Leask Marine. The vessel has been delivered just six weeks following contract; a result of Damen’s series building philosophy. She will perform a variety of marine engineering-related tasks, including dive support, anchor-handling and cable-laying assistance.The Multi Cat, named C-Force, is Leask Marine’s second Damen vessel. They have operated their first, the C-Salvor, a Multi Cat 2409, for many years. The company approached the shipbuilder with a request to deliver a new vessel very quickly.
