The United States on Tuesday sanctioned a network of oil trading firms, individuals and vessels that have helped Venezuelan state-run oil company PDVSA sell crude mainly to Asia despite Washington's sanctions on the South American nation.The measure targets a network that the U.S. Treasury Department says helped the administration of President Nicolas Maduro, whose 2018 re-election Washington called a sham, broker the sale of hundreds of millions of dollars in Venezuelan oil."Those facilitating the illegitimate Maduro regime's attempts to circumvent United States sanctions contribute to the corruption that consumes Venezuela," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a news release.

Marine construction specialist company Herbosch-Kiere has chosen Bawat’s Mobile containerized ballast water management system (BWMS) for its reception facility to serve its entire fleet of vessels and barges.  Herbosch-Kiere tested the world’s first Mobile BWMS from Bawat in the spring of 2020, and the company has now decided to purchase one of its own to serve a fleet of multiple ships and barges.Pieter Nagels, Head of Vessel and Plant Department at Herbosch-Kiere, said, "We were very pleased to have the chance to try out Bawat's Mobile BWMS during spring 2020 and found that it worked out perfectly for our needs.

Damen Shipyards Group said it has signed a contract with Svitzer for the delivery of an ASD Tug 3212. The vessel, to be named Svitzer Thames, will operate in the Port of London and will be the fourth Damen ASD Tug 3212 in the company’s U.K. fleet.Damen and Svitzer signed the contract for the vessel in December last year. Thanks to Damen’s practice of building proven, standardized vessels for stock, Svitzer is able to take delivery of its new tug in the first quarter of 2021.Kasper Karlsen, Svitzer Europe COO said, “We already operate a number of Damen ASD Tugs 3212, including four in the south of the U.K. so operational synergies are obvious.

Ireland headquartered ship owner and charterer Arklow Shipping has contracted communications solutions provider Satcom Global to install Aura VSAT across 17 newbuild vessels due for delivery from 2021 onward.The new vessels will be activated on a range of Aura service packages, all with Committed Information Rate for guaranteed service quality, and companion options to suit their different sailing patterns. Ten new C-Class vessels will benefit from unlimited Ku-band connectivity with 4G back-up to complement their short sea shipping requirements and operations close to shore.
