A ship that blocked the Suez Canal for almost a week in March has not been given clearance to leave the waterway as discussions continue over a compensation claim made to the vessel’s owner Shoei Kisen, an official from the Japanese company said on Tuesday.The Ever Given has been in a lake separating two sections of the canal since it was dislodged on March 29, as the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) conducts investigations.Yumi Shinohara, deputy manager with owner Shoei Kisen’s fleet management department, confirmed the canal had made a compensation claim but gave no further details.
The hull of ultra-luxury expedition ship Seabourn Venture has been transferred from Trieste to Genoa, where the newbuild will undergo final outfitting ahead of its scheduled launch in December. The hull, with its superstructures built up to deck 9, was built at T. Mariotti and Cimolai's CIMAR shipyard in San Giorgio di Nogaro. The new ship was floated out in Trieste on March 30 and arrived in Genoa on April 10 following the 1,200 mile voyage.Already equipped with engines, generators and the main equipment of the engine room, Seabourn Venture will complete the final outfitting phase with the integration of further superstructures built in Genoa in recent months
Singapore-based Sembcorp Marine chose Schottel’s azimuthal hybrid drive system SYDRIVE-E to power the world’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) hybrid tug. With this first in a series of 12 vessels, Sembcorp Marine will build the world’s first hybrid LNG-fueled tug fleet that will replace its existing diesel-powered tugs. The vessel is designed by LMG Marin, a wholly owned Sembcorp Marine subsidiary, and a leading naval architecture design house in Bergen, Norway, which provides energy efficient solutions.The tug’s future operation profile in the harbors of Singapore will demand highly variable power ranges.
Maritime satellite communications solutions provider Applied Satellite Technology (AST) is partnering with The Liberian Registry as the first authorized service provider of the Iridium Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) for Liberian flagged vessels.As a Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) convention recognized system, the Iridium GMDSS maritime emergency and distress service helps keep mariners safe in emergency situations at sea, prevent accidents via receipt of Maritime Safety Information (MSI) and can quickly alert rescue authorities and nearby vessels in the event of an emergency.
Norwegian offshore vessel operator Golden Energy Offshore Management has informed that two vessels it manages have recently secured contract extensions.The Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair Vessel (IMR) vessel Larissa was awarded several months of firm W2W work for Dutch company Wintershall Noordzee AS. The vessel has already arrived at Den Helder, with mobilization ongoing, and the work will begin on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. The vessel is then firm until September 1, 2021.Also, the IMR vessel Despina which started its contract with Fugro in mid-January has been awarded a two-month contract extension, with the vessel now committed until August 15, 2021.
