Norway's Kongsberg has announced "a world first" by testing and verifying a full-scale, full-size, zero-emissions drivetrain powered by hydrogen fuel cells designed for ships and ferries. The project demonstrates that the technology is now mature for using hydrogen (H2) as an energy carrier, Kongsberg said.“With a verified and tested hydrogen-based propulsion system, we take the next step in zero-emission solutions at sea. This project is another example of our world-leading Norwegian maritime cluster succeeding when we face the most demanding technological challenges,” says Geir Håøy, President of Kongsberg.
GasLog Ltd. has ordered four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).The 174,000 cubic meter capacity newbuilds are scheduled to be delivered in 2024 and 2025.The ships will feature the latest generation MEGI propulsion, "setting the bar for energy efficiency very high with a best in class EEDI," according to Gaslog.The company said its fleet consists of 39 LNG carriers, including 35 on the water and four under construction.
Malaysian oil and gas giant Petronas has awarded two Front End Engineering Design (FEED) contracts to a JGC Corporation-Samsung Heavy Industries consortium and to Saipemas part of an international dual FEED design competition for a nearshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Sabah. The project, with a minimum capacity of 2.0 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) is a first of its kind in Malaysia, Petronas said.The FEED design competition is expected to take place over the course of 10 months with the Final Investment Decision (FID) planned for end of 2022.
American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has granted its ABS SUSTAIN 1 Notation for two Harvey Gulf International Marine offshore support vessels, recognizing how their design and operation are aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).To earn the notation, the Harvey Blue-Sea and Harvey Sub-Sea vessels were among 12 of the Harvey Gulf fleet evaluated by ABS for their performance against six of the UNSDG’s criteria. The remaining 10 vessels are also being considered for Sustain notations.The ABS Sustain notations demonstrate adherence to certain UNSDGs related to vessel design, outfitting and layout that can be controlled, measured and assessed.
Seattle-based Manson Construction Co., has been awarded a $16,945,950 firm-fixed-price contract for maintenance dredging in Saint Marys, Ga. The work is expected to be completed by May 7, 2022.Bids were solicited via the internet with two received, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville, Fla., is the contracting activity (W912EP-22-C-0001).Fiscal 2022 operation and maintenance, defense-wide funds in the amount of $16,945,950 were obligated at the time of the award.Manson currently has under construction the U.S.' largest ever hopper dredge, the 15,000 cubic yard Frederick Paup, being built at Keppel AmFELS. in Brownsville, Texas.
