Anglo-Eastern: World-First Ammonia-Powered Bulk Carrier Enters Service
Anglo-Eastern has detailed its role in developing and preparing CMB.TECH's Mineral Europa, the world's first ammonia-powered dry bulk carrier, which recently embarked on its maiden voyage. The 210,000 dwt Newcastlemax, built by CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding, features a WinGD dual-fuel ammonia engine and a Sun Rui Ammonia Fuel Supply System. The vessel can operate on ammonia or conventional marine fuel, providing flexibility as ammonia bunkering infrastructure develops.Anglo-Eastern's involvement dates to 2018, when its technical services division began evaluating alternative fuels with CMB.TECH, initially examining hydrogen before progressing to ammonia.
Uncertain IMO Rules Weigh on Shipping’s Demand for Cleaner Marine Fuels
Shippers' appetite for lower-carbon marine fuels weakened this year as the fate of a regulatory emissions framework from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) remained cloudy while some are using carbon credits, industry executives said.IMO member nations are set to meet by early November on the formal adoption of a net-zero framework to guide the industry towards zero carbon emissions by 2050, after last year's vote to delay the move.Demand for marine biofuel, a more readily available alternative fuel on which shippers have focused more, has softened this year at the world's largest bunker hub of Singapore.
4,700-Year-Old Shipwreck Discovered off Turkish Coast
Underwater archaeologists from Akdeniz University have recovered Early Bronze Age pottery off Kekova Island, offering new evidence of Mediterranean maritime trade and life aboard ships nearly five millennia ago.Underwater archaeologists from Turkey's Akdeniz University have recovered ceramic vessels dating back as far as 4,700 years from a shipwreck near Kekova Island, a discovery researchers believe could represent one of the world's oldest known shipwrecks. The wreck, located off Turkey's Mediterranean coast, has yielded amphora-like vessels dating to the Early Bronze Age, approximately 2700–2400 BCE.

Seven Missing as Tanker Fires Rock Romania's Black Sea Coast
Rescuers were searching for seven missing crew on Thursday from one of two chemical tankers that caught fire overnight inside Romanian territorial waters in the Black Sea, after Russian drones strayed into Romanian airspace, Romanian officials said.Romanian officials stopped short of explicitly linking the fires onboard the ships to the Russian drones. But the incidents follow drone strikes on at least five other cargo ships near the coasts of Romania and neighbouring fellow NATO member Bulgaria over the past 10 days. At least 23 sailors were lost from those strikes, which unlike the latest incidents took place just outside NATO's territorial waters.
