The government of Argentina on Monday declared a 180-day “water emergency” for the Parana River, which is suffering a historic bout of shallowness that has affected the amount of grains that can be shipped from the country’s key ports hub of Rosario.The country is a major international food supplier. The Parana, which originates in a drought-hit part of Brazil, carries about 80% of Argentina’s agricultural shipments, which are the country’s main source of export dollars.The river is at its lowest level in 77 years.
McAllister Towing LNG Services, LLC will serve as technical manager for the Polaris New Energy LNG bunkering operation in Florida, operating the Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) Polaris/Clean Canaveral for Polaris New Energy. “We are excited to work with McAllister Towing because, as one of the oldest marine transportation companies in the US, they bring a tradition for providing unsurpassed operational excellence," said Tom Sullivan, COO, Seaside LNG Holdings, the parent company of Polaris New Energy.
Cruise shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line on Sunday officially marked return to business, with its Norwegian Jade ship the first of its 17-ship fleet to welcome guests after 500 days. It was also another first for the Norwegian Jade, as it became Norwegian Cruise Line's first vessel to homeport in Athens (Piraeus)."Until November 2021, guests sailing aboard Norwegian Jade's immersive Greek Isles itinerary will wake up in a new destination every day, able to spend eight-to-nine hours exploring some of Greece's most picturesque islands including luxurious Crete, bustling Mykonos, historical Rhodes and the iconic blue and white Santorini," Norwegian Cruise Line said.
GTT, a France-based engineering firm, has secured orders to design tanks for six new LNG carriers to be built in South Korea.Four LNG carriers will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and two will be built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.HHI will build two LNG Carriers for an unnamed Asian shipowner and two for an unnamed European ship-owner. HSHI will construct LNG carrier duo for a European ship-owner.GTT will design the tanks of the vessels which will offer a cargo capacity 174,000 m3 and will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system, a technology developed by GTT. The vessels will be delivered between the last quarter of 2023 and the third quarter of 2025.
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index rose for a fourth straight session on Monday, helped by higher demand for capesize vessels.The index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, and supramax shipping vessels carrying dry bulk commodities, rose 11 points, or 0.3%, to 3,210.The capesize index added 35 points, or nearly 1%, to 3,950, its highest since June 29.Average daily earnings for capesizes, which typically transport 150,000-tonne cargoes of iron ore, jumped by $286 to $32,755.Dalian and Singapore iron ore futures rebounded on Monday after a five-day slump, due to a recovery in steel margins in China, the world's biggest buyer of the steelmaking ingredient.
