ABS and Persona AI inked an MOU to develop inspection technologies for Persona AI’s humanoid robot platform deployment in shipyards. Humanoid robots are suited to operate in shipyards designed for human workers, offering flexibility and mobility in complex, confined, or ergonomically challenging spaces.Persona AI’s humanoid robots, based in part on NASA’s robotic hand technology, will be outfitted to conduct a range of shipyard tasks.Under the MOU, ABS and Persona AI will collaborate on a series of joint development projects, collecting data to support classification during ship construction.

Bureau Veritas Greenlights Ammonia-Powered LR2 Tanker with PEM Fuel Cells
MISC Berhad (MISC) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) have received the Approval in Principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) for the design of the world’s first ammonia-fueled LR2 tanker powered by Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) technology.The AiP from BV confirms the technical feasibility of the concept as well as initial conformity to the applicable rules, industry codes, and standards.The AiP was awarded as part of a strategic joint development project involving MISC, SHI, and BV.

Sallaum Lines Launches its First Dual-Fuel LNG PCTC
Sallaum Lines has launched its first LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) newbuilding, the Ocean Breeze, with a landmark ceremony in the port of Antwerp.The Ocean Breeze has capacity for 7,500 CEU and is powered by dual-fuel LNG engines. The vessel delivers substantial reductions in CO2, NOx, and particulate emissions compared to conventional tonnage.An optimized hull design and energy-saving devices further increase efficiency, according Sallaum.To accommodate its growing fleet, Sallaum Terminal Antwerp recently completed a $23.5 million (€20 million) expansion.

Canada Readies for Offshore Wind
Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, has announced that strategic direction has been given to the Canada–Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator as a next step toward realizing Canada’s first-ever offshore wind project.Fraser made the announcement on behalf of Tim Hodgson, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and Nova Scotia Minister of Energy, Trevor Boudreau.In July, the Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia jointly designated the areas of French Bank, Middle Bank and Sable Island Bank off mainland Nova Scotia and Sydney Bight off Cape Breton for eventual wind projects.
