Offshore Equipment Hydraulic Maintenance Tip-of-the-Day: Oil Cleanliness

Offshore Equipment Hydraulic Maintenance Tip-of-the-Day: Oil Cleanliness

Tip #3: Oil Cleanliness - Don't add regular filter changes to your maintenance scheduleMost filters have switches indicating when the element is full, and sometimes waiting for that may be too late. Changing filters on a regular service interval is a simple way to check the contamination level of a hydraulic system. The human body's organs and blood could be compared to individual components and the fluid within hydraulic/lubrication system. If the blood is dirty, organs will start shutting down and we will physically show that we are sick.

Finnish shipbuilder Helsinki Shipyard said it has secured an order to build a third luxury expedition cruise vessel for British operator Swan Hellenic. The new vessel is scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2022, and like the two ships already on order, it is designed for the global cruise market, with an emphasis on high-latitude cruises, the shipbuilder said. Helsinki Shipyard said design work is already underway and that construction is slated to begin in the summer of 2021.The order follows a keel laying ceremony held in September for the 113-meter, 10,500-ton SH Minerva, the first cruise ship to be built for Swan Hellenic at Helsinki Shipyard.

Hull Damage Not to Blame for 1994 Estonia Ferry Disaster -Report

An Estonian ferry disaster that killed 852 people in 1994 was probably not caused by hull damage to the vessel that was first revealed in a documentary this year, experts concluded after a preliminary investigation of the video footage. The sinking of the ferry Estonia in the Baltic Sea was the deadliest peacetime shipwreck in European waters for centuries. An official investigation in 1997 concluded that the bow ramp of the ferry had failed during a storm, flooding the car deck and causing the vessel to roll over and sink.

Both exemptions are subject to certain conditions.

Ferry company Stena Line announced that Stena Embla, the last of its three new ferries destined for the Irish Sea, has completed its sea trials in China’s Yellow Sea and is set to arrive in Belfast at the end of 2020.Stena Embla is the latest new Stena Line next generation RoPax vessel that is being constructed at the CMI Jingling Weihai Shipyard in China, marking the end of significant recent investment on the Irish Sea by the Swedish owned ferry company. The global pandemic did not delay the build of the vessel, which is being delivered to the agreed schedule, Stena Line said.“It is great to see that the shipyard has not missed a beat during this year’s final stages of the build.
