Chinese shipbuilders have handed over the 24,000 TEU capacity Ever Alot to Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen Marine.The newbuild, built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), is said to be the new world's largest containership. The vessel is 399.99 meters long and 61.5 meters wide, with a deck area of 24,000 square meters and a cargo compartment that's 33.2 meters deep.Once in operation, it will service routes between Europe and the Far East.
The German government made an offer to buy the insolvent MV Werften's Rostock shipyard for its navy, a defense ministry spokesperson said on Friday, in a move to top up capacities for repairing and servicing war ships.Germany, in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has been scrambling to bring its military back in shape after decades of attrition following the Cold War.In a major policy shift, Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged in February to sharply increase defense spending, including an initial 100 billion euro ($106 billion) fund to fill gaps in weapons and other military equipment.

Aegean Shipping announced it has taken delivery of the newbuild Aframax tanker Green Admire. The vessel was handed over on Friday at China Yangzhou Cosco Shipyard Heavy Industry.The ship's design incorporates an optimized hull form powered by a Tier III MAN B&W 6G60ME-C9.5-HPSCR engine for improved fuel efficiency, Aegean Shipping said. With an attained EEDI of 2.99g CO2/t.NM vessel already fulfills phase II of EEDI. The vessel is also equipped with a ballast water treatment system and complies with the new Bureau Veritas Environmental notations (Green Passport, Cleanship Super etc).
Houston-based dredging contractor Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation announced that its Chief Operating Officer, David E. Simonelli, will retire effective September 16, 2022. After his retirement, he will provide consulting services to the company.Simonelli, who has spent 44 years with Great Lakes, became the President of the company’s Dredging Division in 2010, and Chief Operating Officer in 2018.Lasse Petterson, Great Lakes' President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Dave Simonelli’s rise through the company’s ranks has demonstrated his dedication to Great Lakes and all of our employees.
