CNOOC FPSO Holding Limited is a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), which is one of the largest national oil companies in China. CNOOC is primarily engaged in the exploration, development, and production of oil and natural gas in offshore China, as well as in various international locations.

CNOOC FPSO Holding Limited specializes in the development and operation of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units. These are floating vessels used by offshore oil and gas industries for the production and processing of hydrocarbons and for the storage of oil. An FPSO unit can take all of the oil or gas produced from nearby subsea oil wells or drilling platforms, process it, and store it until the oil or gas can be offloaded onto a tanker or sent through a pipeline.

Key aspects of CNOOC FPSO Holding Limited:

  1. FPSO Operations: The company operates a fleet of FPSOs that are utilized in various offshore oil fields, primarily in China but also in international waters. These units play a critical role in the offshore oil and gas production chain.

  2. Engineering and Development: CNOOC FPSO Holding Limited is involved in the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and operation of FPSO units. This includes designing FPSOs that can withstand harsh offshore environments and meet the specific needs of different oil fields.

  3. International Projects: Besides its operations in Chinese waters, the company is also involved in international projects. It collaborates with other oil and gas companies and may operate FPSOs in joint ventures in different parts of the world.

  4. Research and Innovation: The company is engaged in research and development to improve the efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance of its FPSO units. This could include advancements in hull design, mooring systems, subsea infrastructure, and onboard processing facilities.

  5. Strategic Importance: As an integral part of CNOOC, CNOOC FPSO Holding Limited helps to fulfill China’s strategic energy needs by enhancing the company's ability to exploit offshore oil and gas resources more efficiently.

FPSOs are a crucial part of the offshore oil and gas industry, especially in deepwater and ultra-deepwater fields where traditional infrastructure is not feasible. Therefore, companies like CNOOC FPSO Holding Limited are vital in expanding the frontiers of offshore hydrocarbon production.

Greek Shipyards Revitalized

The rhythmic clang of hammers and the bright flashes of welding torches filled the air at Skaramangas Shipyard near Athens last month, as workers busily repaired the bow of a large tanker. Nearby, other vessels awaited their turn in the dry dock—an unmistakable sign of renewed activity at the once-idle shipyard.Just a year ago, Skaramangas stood empty, a stark reminder of Greece’s prolonged debt crisis from 2009 to 2018. Following decades of inconsistent government ownership and uncertainty, the shipyard had languished. But today, it is experiencing a revival.“Now there is life here again,” said Theodoros Evagelou, a worker sandblasting and painting ships.

MEGA MACHINES: Manson Prepares to Add “The Bionic Man” of Dredge Vessels

Manson Construction has long been a pillar of the U.S. maritime industry, rooted in a tradition of U.S.-built, U.S.-owned, and U.S.-operated vessels. The company was founded in 1905 by Peter Manson, when he dug up a jar of gold coins [because he didn’t trust the banks] and purchased a winch, a winch that was then put on a barge and that became Manson's first pile driver. With barge-mounted pile driver, Manson Construction  embarked on its journey into marine construction and eventually dredging, a journey which continues today as it has become a dominant player today in the U.S. maritime market, playing a crucial role in building and maintaining the nation’s maritime infrastructure.
