CAL DIVE BARGES, INC.

CAL DIVE BARGES, INC. was a company that operated within the offshore oil and gas industry. It specialized in providing marine construction and diving services, typically using dive support vessels and barges. These services generally included underwater inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation activities related to offshore oil and gas infrastructure, including pipelines, platforms, and subsea systems.

The company would typically employ experienced divers, engineers, and other specialized personnel to carry out complex underwater tasks, often in challenging and hazardous environments. They utilized a range of advanced equipment and technologies to enhance safety and efficiency.

Historically, the parent company of CAL DIVE BARGES, INC. was Cal Dive International, Inc., a well-known entity in the subsea and marine services sector. Cal Dive International was established in 1975 and grew to become a significant player in underwater services for the oil and gas industry. The company was headquartered in Houston, Texas, and operated globally.

However, by the mid-2010s, Cal Dive International faced significant financial difficulties, primarily driven by volatile oil prices, fierce industry competition, and challenges in securing profitable contracts. In 2015, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in an effort to restructure its debts and streamline its operations. Eventually, its assets were liquidated, and the company's operations ceased.

While CAL DIVE BARGES, INC. may no longer be operational, its legacy remains part of the broader history of the offshore oil and gas service industry, known for its crucial role in enabling the exploration and production of undersea oil and gas resources.

The threat that AI and quantum computing pose to cyber security is already here, even before these technologies are mature enough to crack today’s encryption methods. Bad actors are taking a “harvest now decrypt later” approach to cyberattacks.Classical encryption methods like Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA) and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) rely on the difficulty of factoring large numbers or solving discrete logarithm problems.“Breaking these public, asymmetric key encryption schemes is a practical impossibility for classical systems.

ABS awarded approval in principle (AiP) to Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc. (OSG), the parent company of Aptamus Carbon Solutions, for its preliminary design of a liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) barge. The development of the barge design is a core component of the Tampa Regional Intermodal Carbon Hub (T-RICH) project to receive, store and process emissions from Florida industries for transport to regional sequestration sites. The articulated tug and barge unit (ATB) is a first-of-its-kind to service carbon capture projects in the U.S. The cargo handling system design is based on medium pressure LCO2 Type-C tanks and is capable of transporting 20,000 mt of cargo.

Ammonia: Höegh Autoliners Cuts Through the Grey Area

Confusion over new fuels will not be helped by the fact that each one has a good and bad version. The science on grey ammonia, grey methanol, and palm oil biofuel show that these are probably worse for the planet, if adopted, than unfettered continuation of fossil fuel consumption. Conversely, green methanol, green ammonia and biofuel made using genuine wastes and residual products could create a substantial dent in production and consumption of fossil fuels. For this reason, clarity on which fuels shipping lines intend eventually to use is vital.Höegh Autoliners is set on ammonia, CEO Andreas Enger explained, and is making a commitment to the fuel on which its peers are stopping short.
