Blue Star Line A/S is a privately-owned cruise line company, predominantly known for its ambitious project to build a modern replica of the RMS Titanic, named Titanic II. The company is spearheaded by Australian businessman and billionaire Clive Palmer.

Key Points about Blue Star Line A/S:

  1. Foundation and Ownership: Blue Star Line was founded by Clive Palmer. It is a private entity funded and operated under his leadership.

  2. Titanic II Project: The most significant and well-publicized project undertaken by Blue Star Line is the construction of Titanic II. Announced in the early 2010s, the project aims to recreate the original Titanic with modern safety and navigation technologies while maintaining the historical design and aesthetic. The intended purpose of Titanic II is to offer a unique cruising experience, evoking the grandeur of the early 20th century transatlantic crossings.

  3. Specifications of Titanic II:

    • The ship is planned to replicate the original Titanic in terms of structure and layout.

    • Modern safety regulations are integrated, including sufficient lifeboats, advanced navigation, and communication systems.

    • The ship's dimensions are expected to mirror the original, with equal decks and accommodations reflecting first, second, and third-class cabins.

  4. Delays and Progress: The Titanic II project has experienced multiple delays and has shifted timelines over the years. Initially slated for completion in 2016, the schedule has been revised several times, with various new targets set for the ship's maiden voyage.

  5. Vision and Goals: The vision behind Blue Star Line and Titanic II revolves around blending historical admiration with cutting-edge technology to bring an iconic piece of maritime history back to life. The goal is both to honor the legacy of the original Titanic and to offer a unique and luxurious cruising experience.

  6. Public and Industry Reception: The announcement of Titanic II garnered significant media attention and curiosity. Public and industry reactions have been mixed, with some expressing excitement about the revival of an iconic ship and others expressing skepticism about the commercial viability and the potential sensitivities related to the historical tragedy.

Blue Star Line A/S remains a unique entity in the maritime and cruise industry due to its focus on the historical recreation of one of the world's most famous, albeit tragic, ocean liners. The realization of Titanic II, if and when completed, will mark a notable event in contemporary maritime history.

Alternative Fuel Vessels Orders Continue to Grow Despite Slowing of Overall Newbuild Market

Ordering of alternative-fueled vessels is continuing to grow in 2025, despite a slowdown in the overall newbuild market. According to data from DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) platform, new orders for alternative-fueled vessels reached 19.8 million gross tonnes (GT) in the first six months of 2025, exceeding the 2024 figure by 78%. This marks a shift in capital allocation, as shipowners increasingly prioritize future-ready assets in response to regulatory pressure, fuel availability, and long-term decarbonization goals.LNG was the clear fuel of choice, accounting for 87 new vessels ordered, totaling 14.2 million GT so far in 2025.
