BADAN PELAKSANA KEGIATAN USAHA
"Badan Pelaksana Kegiatan Usaha Hulu Minyak dan Gas Bumi" (abbreviated as BP Migas) was an Indonesian government agency responsible for managing the upstream oil and gas activities in the country. Established under the Law No. 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas, BP Migas aimed to ensure that exploration, production, and investment in the oil and gas sector were conducted efficiently and in a way that maximized benefits for the state and its people.
BP Migas was tasked with overseeing and regulating the activities of oil and gas companies operating in Indonesia, which included granting licenses, ensuring compliance with regulations and contracts, and facilitating investment in the sector. The agency played a pivotal role in managing the extraction of Indonesia's rich natural resources, and it worked closely with various national and international oil companies.
However, in 2012, the Constitutional Court of Indonesia ruled that BP Migas was unconstitutional, leading to its dissolution. Following this decision, the responsibilities and functions previously held by BP Migas were transferred to a new entity, SKK Migas (Satuan Kerja Khusus Pelaksana Kegiatan Usaha Hulu Minyak dan Gas Bumi). SKK Migas continues to operate as the regulatory body overseeing upstream oil and gas activities in Indonesia, ensuring the sector contributes effectively to the nation's economy.
