American Petroleum Tankers LLC (APT) is a company that operates in the maritime transportation industry, specializing in the transportation of refined petroleum products and crude oil. APT is recognized for its fleet of modern tankers that are employed in coastwise trade within the United States, complying with the Jones Act. The Jones Act requires that goods transported by water between U.S. ports be carried on ships that are built, owned, and operated by U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

APT operates a fleet of both medium-range (MR) tankers and large articulated tug-barges (ATBs), which offer flexibility and reliability in meeting the transportation needs of their clients. These vessels are known for their high standards of safety, operational efficiency, and environmental compliance.

The company is a part of the privately-held Kinder Morgan, Inc., one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. Kinder Morgan acquired APT in 2014 to bolster its shipping capabilities within the U.S. The acquisition has allowed APT to leverage Kinder Morgan's broader infrastructure and expertise in energy transportation to enhance its service offerings further.

APT serves a variety of customers, including major oil companies, refiners, and traders, transporting petroleum products from U.S. refineries to various distribution points across the country. The company's operations and assets are critical to ensuring a steady supply of petroleum products within domestic markets.

Given its specialized focus and compliance with U.S. maritime laws, American Petroleum Tankers LLC plays a significant role in the domestic energy supply chain, contributing to the efficient and safe delivery of energy products across the United States.
