In 2008, Aker Yards ASA was acquired by the South Korean shipbuilding giant STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, resulting in a rebranding of Aker Yards SA under the new name STX France. In 2018, STX France was acquired by Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri, a major player in global shipbuilding, and was renamed Chantiers de l'Atlantique.
