Harvey Gulf International Marine announced Thursday it will install 10 battery systems on board eight of its vessels as the U.S. based offshore vessel owner continues its efforts to transform its fleet for greener operations.Harvey Gulf said it plans to install battery systems to convert its 310-foot liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled platform supply vessels (PSV) Harvey America, Harvey Liberty, Harvey Power and Harvey Freedom into tri-fuel vessels.Another four battery systems will be fitted onto three of the company’s 300- and 310-foot PSVs—Harvey Supporter, Harvey Hawk and Harvey Condor—with two systems being installed on one of the vessels.

An ammonia-fueled tanker design developed by South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has received approval in principal (AIP) from classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR).The project to develop the novel, emissions-slashing aframax tanker was announced in January as maritime stakeholders consider cleaner-burning ammonia and other zero-carbon options to meet the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) target to halve shipping’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from 2008 levels by 2050.

Greek oil tanker company Okeanis Eco Tankers has taken delivery of the Suezmax tanker Nissos Sifnos, concluding the company's newbuilding program.The Nissos Sifnos was delivered from South Korea's Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in South Korea. The tanker has already started its three-year time charter with an unnamed oil company.This is the second (and final) Suezmax delivery this month from Hyundai for Alafouzos family-controlled Okeanis Eco Tankers after the company announced the delivery of the Nissos Sikinos tanker ten days ago.Both Nissos Sikinos and Nissos Sifnos are fitted with scrubbers, and both 158,000 dwt tankers have started their three-year charters.

Phase Two Contract Awarded for New Soo Lock Project

The second phase construction contract for the New Lock at the Soo has been awarded to Kokosing Alberici LLC of Westerville, Ohio, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced Thursday.The much-anticipated mega-project will require three phases of construction. Kokosing Alberici's $111 million contract to complete the second phase will stabilize the existing approach walls, allowing modern vessels to tie up and wait their turn to pass through the new lock. Construction will begin in spring 2021 and take about two years to complete.
