MOL, TotalEnergies Complete First First Ship Refuelling with Biofuel in Singapore
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and TotalEnergies Marine Fuels have completed the first refuelling of a ship with biofuels in Singapore, the shipping company said on Wednesday.The ship, a car and truck carrier named Heroic Ace, was refueled using biofuel supplied by TotalEnergies via a ship-to-ship transfer on June 11, MOL said in a statement.The biofuel blend that was used in the trial comprised of very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) blended with 20% second-generation, waste-based and ISCC-certified used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME), MOL said. ISCC is a sustainability certification system covering bio-based feedstocks and renewables.

The Path to Net Zero: Ammonia as Marine Fuel Study gets $6.7m Grant
A group of academic and industrial partners were awarded a $6.7 million grant by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to accelerate understanding, technologies and policies relating to the use of ammonia as a sustainable fuel. The project begins in June 2022 and will run for 5 years.Entitled Decarbonized Clean Marine: Green Ammonia Thermal Propulsion (MariNH3), the project brings together academics from Nottingham, Birmingham, Brighton, Cardiff and STFC, as well as partners such as regulators, oil companies, engine manufacturers and other industrial organizations.The lead investigator is Prof.

Berge Bulk Vessel Set for WindWings Install
Berge Bulk will equip its Newcastlemax bulker Berge Olympus with WindWings in an effort to evaluate the wind-assisted propulsion technology as a means to reduce vessel emissions.The dry bulk shipowner reached an agreement to install four BAR Tech WindWings by Yara Marine Technologies on board the 210 DWT bulk carrier in the second quarter of 2023.“This partnership with BAR Tech and Yara Marine is a great step towards our transition to zero-emissions operations,” said James Marshall, CEO of Berge Bulk. “At Berge Bulk, we believe in the results that can be achieved by harnessing wind power.

PHOTOS: First Dogger Bank Offshore Substation Reaches Norway
Following a long journey from Thailand, an offshore substation built for the massive Dogger Bank offshore wind project in the United Kingdom arrived at Aibel's yard in Haugesund on Saturday, aboard BigLift Shipping's heavy transportation vessel BigLift Baffin.The substation is the first of three platforms that Aibel will deliver to the world’s largest offshore wind farm, the 3.6 GW Dogger Bank, which is located in the North Sea, 130 kilometers off the Yorkshire coast.The platforms will be outfitted with the latest generation HVDC converter equipment from Hitachi Energy and undergo final completion and commissioning at the yard in Haugesund.

Eidesvik Offshore Names Cotgrove as New CFO
Norwegian offshore vessel owner Eidesvik Offshore has named Helga Cotgrove as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Cotgrove will join Eidesvik Offshore October 1, 2022 at the latest. She has more than 20 years of energy sector finance experience in various roles within M&A, strategy, tax, finance, accounting, and auditing. She comes from the position as CFO in Norsk Solar AS. Cotgrove previously worked as Halliburton's director of corporate development in Houston, where she was in charge of global M&A deals.Cotgrove holds a degree in accounting and auditing and an MBA in Management control from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH).
