Ferry industry trade group Interferry announced Brittany Ferries CEO Christophe Mathieu as the new Chair of its board of directors.  He was elected at the association’s annual general meeting on October 27 - held virtually due to COVID-19 travel restrictions - in succession to John Steen-Mikkelsen, former CEO of Denmark’s Danske Faerger.  The meeting also confirmed the appointment of a new director extending Southeast Asia representation on the board.Mathieu, an Interferry board member since 2010, joined the French ferry operator in 1992 and worked in a wide variety of roles – including finance, operations, marketing and strategy – before becoming CEO in 2016.

Vard to Build Second Stern Trawler for Luntos

Designer and builders of specialized vessels Vard said it has signed an agreement for the design and construction of another stern trawler for Russian fishing company Luntos Co. Ltd., due for delivery in the third quarter of 2022.The order, which follows the first placed in 2019, is for a new fishing vessel with a length of 87 meters and a beam of 18 meters, will be built at Vard Vung Tau shipyard (Vietnam).The newbuild is designed to ensure optimal productivity, sustainability and operational efficiency, guaranteeing high performance in demanding environmental conditions, according to Vard, a Fincantieri subsidiary.
