Russian shipbuilder Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex on Tuesday held a keel laying ceremony for a new Arctic liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier ordered by compatriot shipowner PAO Sovcomflot (SCF Group).The newbuild is the lead vessel in a series of 15 carriers ordered from Zvezda for servicing the Arctic LNG 2 project. She is the first-ever vessel of such dimensions, cargo capacity and icebreaking capabilities to be constructed at a Russian shipyard.The series' lead ship will be owned by SCF, while the remaining 14 will be owned by SMART LNG, a joint venture between PAO Sovcomflot and PAO NOVATEK. Their construction is being financed by VEB.RF.

Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku on Monday commenced production of Royal Caribbean International's next cruise ship Icon of the Seas. The start of production and the revealing of the ship’s name were celebrated at the shipyard's plate hall, where Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer, Chairman of the Board of Meyer Turku , Bernard Meyer, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, Richard Fain, and Harri Kulovaara, Executive Vice President of Maritime & Newbuilds, were present. Moduteh Marine, of Tacoma, Wash., has gained recognition on meeting the stringent conditions of military contracts. In 2020 they completed a contract to build a fleet of five small tugs. These carry the military designation Work Boat Docking.“The mission of the CNIC Work Boat Docking (WB Docking) is to provide waterborne support at U.S. Navy Installations,” said Modutech’s Brian Swindahl. “The boats are required to have the ability to safely assist vessels including submarines for mooring and dry-docking, open and close security barriers, as well as to tow/push floating port operations support equipment.

GTT to Design Tanks for Four New LNG Carriers

French engineering firm GTT announced on Wednesday that it has received an order from Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the tank design of four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to be built for a European shipowner.GTT said it will design the tanks of the vessels which will each offer a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters and will be fitted with the GTT Mark III Flex+ membrane cryogenic containment system.The ships are scheduled to be delivered between the third quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024.
